Peavine Peak

At an elevation of 8269 feet, Peavine is the guardian of Reno. It rises nearly 3800 feet from downtown Reno, less than 10 miles to its SE. It is separated from the Sierra crest, nearly 9 miles further to the west, so it makes its own weather which it graciously shares with Reno.

Peavine is my surrogate "wilderness". BLM and Forest Service land, it is open to motorized vehicles, but in fact from my favorite trailhead, 20 minutes from home, I can often spend a morning in total solitude.

The picture is from South Meadows, 18 miles SSE of the peak.
